Summit Fire & Security acquires Casteel Automatic Fire Protection, stacking Texas sprinkler density under a national FLS platform

Summit Fire & Security LLC, a subsidiary of SFP Holding, Inc. (Summit Companies), announced on September 11 that it has acquired Casteel Automatic Fire Protection across Houston, Amarillo, Austin, and Lubbock, Texas, effective September 1, 2026. The deal was structured as a purchase of substantially all of the assets of Casteel Automatic Fire Protection, Inc. Casteel’s people stay in place. Summit’s broader fire, security, and life-safety suite becomes available to those four markets on top of the sprinkler franchise Casteel built over nearly five decades.

The asset.

Casteel Automatic Fire Protection was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Houston, with additional offices in Amarillo, Austin, and Lubbock. It is a fire sprinkler contractor serving commercial and industrial customers across Texas — design, installation, and service. The company employs over 40 team members and runs a fleet of about 30 service vehicles. Mark Johnston, vice president of Casteel, said joining Summit lets the firm offer a broader set of fire protection and security services to long-term customers while keeping existing relationships intact.

That is a classic multi-market sprinkler book: project install on one side, service that brings commercial and industrial accounts back on the other, already densified across four of Texas’s major metros rather than a single-city shop.

The platform.

Summit Fire & Security is the fire-and-security operating arm under SFP Holding / Summit Companies, a national fire and life safety services provider. In August 2025, BDT & MSD Partners agreed to acquire a majority stake in Summit Companies from BlackRock Long Term Private Capital, with founder and management retaining ownership and continuing to run the business. The Casteel release is signed Reno, Nevada, and frames Summit as continuing to serve local and regional customers with a full suite of fire protection, security, and life-safety solutions.

Jeremiah Hazard, senior vice president of Summit Fire & Security, said the Casteel team stays in place so customers keep the same faces, now with Summit’s national platform behind them. Named add-on services for Casteel’s markets include fire detection and alarm systems, security alarms, access control, alarm monitoring, fire extinguishers, and special hazard fire suppression.

Texas density, then the full stack.

A national FLS consolidator is buying four-city Texas sprinkler density and immediately putting detection, alarm, security, and special hazard onto accounts that already know Casteel for sprinklers.

Owners have seen the same shape at smaller scale in Connecticut — Fire Protection Team’s Brake Fire Protection add-on — and a different shape in the Midwest, where Hidden Harbor stood Escape Fire Protection up as a dedicated platform. Summit’s Casteel deal is the national-platform version: buy the sprinkler relationship across a state footprint, keep the local bench, expand the wallet.

What it means.

For Texas fire sprinkler and broader life-safety owners, a BDT & MSD–backed national platform is actively densifying in-state — with management continuity as the pitch and a clear cross-sell path from sprinklers into alarm, monitoring, and special hazard. The practical questions on the next inbound are familiar: how much of the book is recurring inspection and service versus project install, whether the buyer wants a sprinkler specialist or a multi-trade FLS shop, and whether Casteel-style operator continuity is on the table.

National FLS platforms, PE-backed regional platforms, and in-state densifiers are all active. They are not the same inbound.
