Right Angle Partners–backed Fire Protection Team (FPT) announced on September 1 that it has acquired Brake Fire Protection, Inc., a multigenerational fire sprinkler contractor based in Trumbull, Connecticut. FPT is a premier, family-owned, full-service commercial fire protection company headquartered in Cheshire. The deal unites two Connecticut family businesses and expands FPT’s local footprint while giving Brake’s clients a broader commercial fire and life-safety suite. Jim Brake remains on day-to-day customer relationships and operations.
The asset.
Brake Fire Protection is a multigenerational fire sprinkler contractor in Trumbull, Connecticut. The company specializes in sprinkler installation, renovation, repair, code compliance, and testing for commercial, industrial, and educational facilities statewide. That is the classic project-plus-compliance sprinkler book — install and renovation on one side, testing and code work that brings accounts back on the other.
The platform.
Fire Protection Team is a family-owned, full-service commercial fire safety contractor based in Cheshire, Connecticut, serving the Northeast with installation, inspection, maintenance, and emergency services across fire alarm, sprinkler, and suppression. It is a portfolio company of Right Angle Partners, a New York thematic firm focused on founder-led and family-owned technology and services companies. Ned Nichols is CEO. The combined offering named in the release is the full FLS stack: fire sprinkler systems (installation, testing, and maintenance); fire alarm systems and 24/7 monitoring; special hazard fire suppression; fire extinguishers and emergency lighting; and backflow preventers, fire hydrants, and fire pump testing.
Nichols framed the deal as culture continuity plus capability: both organizations treat customers like partners, Brake’s clients get a wider commercial service set, and Jim Brake’s local leadership and day-to-day service stay in place. Brake said the step looks forward while preserving the multigenerational dedication that built the company — customers still see him on day-to-day needs, now with a full-service team behind the sprinkler book.
CT densifying.
This is not a new national platform announcement. It is a Connecticut add-on that puts Cheshire and Trumbull under one PE-backed FLS operator. Midwest owners just got a dedicated platform buyer in Hidden Harbor’s Escape Fire Protection. Northeast owners watching FPT see the same shape from the other direction: a regional platform already in market, buying density next door, with seller operators kept on the customer interface.
Sprinkler contractors that only install are project businesses. Platforms that can sell alarm, monitoring, special hazard, extinguishers, and pump testing on top of the sprinkler relationship turn a one-trade account into a recurring life-safety wallet. That is the point of this tuck-in.
What it means.
For commercial fire protection owners in Connecticut and the broader Northeast, Right Angle’s FPT platform is actively densifying in-state — with management continuity as the pitch, not a wipeout of local names. The practical questions on the next inbound are the usual ones: how much of the book is recurring inspection and testing versus project install, whether the buyer wants a sprinkler specialist or a multi-trade FLS shop, and whether Jim Brake–style operator continuity is on the table.
