Ridgeline Roofing & Restoration announced on September 23 the acquisition of Advantage Roofing & Exteriors, a Kalamazoo, Michigan residential and commercial exteriors contractor serving Southwest Michigan. Ridgeline is a portfolio company of Bertram Capital. The transaction is Ridgeline’s eighth acquisition and continues the platform’s Midwest build-out after earlier moves into Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Illinois.

The asset.

Advantage Roofing & Exteriors was founded in 1998 by Tim Brown and has spent nearly three decades building a recognized local exteriors brand across Kalamazoo and the surrounding Southwest Michigan region. The company’s service line covers roofing installation and repair, siding, gutters, decks, and storm damage restoration for homeowners and businesses — the full residential-and-commercial exteriors stack that has become the core of Ridgeline’s add-on thesis. Brown framed the combination as keeping Advantage’s way of working in place while adding platform resources: a bigger team and more support after a 28-year run building the brand in Kalamazoo.

The platform.

Ridgeline was founded in Birmingham, Alabama and built a residential and commercial roofing business across the Southeast before Bertram Capital recapitalized the company in January 2024. CEO Chris Baldus described Advantage as a founder-led operator with a loyal customer base and a team that has stuck around for years — “exactly the kind of business we love partnering with.” Zach Bassi, Vice President at Bertram Capital, pointed to Advantage’s deep community roots and support for extending that reputation across Southwest Michigan.

Since the Bertram recapitalization, Ridgeline has executed a steady cadence of regional add-ons:

1. Pro Shield — Madison, Mississippi. Ridgeline’s first add-on, expanding the platform’s Southeast presence into Mississippi.

2. Signature Exteriors — Charlotte, North Carolina. A roofing contractor adding density in the Carolinas.

3. Brody Allen Exteriors — St. Louis, Missouri. Ridgeline’s first move outside the Southeast and into the Midwest.

4. Kenneth Daniel Roofing — Littleton, North Carolina. A residential roofing contractor founded in 2019, extending Ridgeline’s Carolina footprint into the Littleton and southern Virginia markets.

5. Bold North Roofing and Contracting — Twin Cities metro, Minnesota. A roofing and exterior services provider; founders Erik McLaughlin and Ryan Emmerich continued to lead the business and reinvested into the broader Ridgeline platform.

6. Fremont Roofing Company — Fremont, Nebraska. Extended Ridgeline into Nebraska and the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro under founder JB Harris.

7. Freedom Roofing & Construction — Champaign, Illinois. Founded in 2014 by Kurt Kiser; further deepened Midwest coverage into Central Illinois (June 18, 2026).

8. Advantage Roofing & Exteriors — Kalamazoo / Southwest Michigan. The current transaction; Tim Brown’s 1998-founded brand adds Michigan to the Midwest map.

The pattern across all eight add-ons is consistent: tuck-in acquisitions of regional residential exteriors businesses with established local brands and founder-operators staying in place after close. Each deal extends geographic coverage rather than consolidating overlapping markets.

Midwest densification, market by market.

Advantage is the latest in a clear Midwest sequence — St. Louis, Twin Cities, Nebraska, Champaign, and now Kalamazoo — rather than a one-off state entry. Owners who followed Fremont and Freedom already saw the platform leave the Southeast core and keep buying secondary and tertiary Midwest metros where independent exteriors operators historically faced fewer named institutional buyers. Southwest Michigan fits that same playbook: a long-tenured local brand, a full exteriors wallet, and a founder still running the shop.

Ridgeline sits in a wider PE-backed residential and commercial roofing board that also includes Nations Roof, Legacy Restoration (Bessemer Investors), Infinity Home Services, Valor Exterior Partners, and operator-led groups such as EM Exteriors. The shared thesis is familiar — fragmented industry, re-roof and storm demand, room to professionalize marketing, sales, and field productivity — but the practical buyer signal for Michigan and broader Midwest owners is that Bertram’s platform is still writing checks in those markets.

What it means.

For residential and light-commercial roofing and exteriors owners in Michigan and the surrounding Midwest — especially shops with a multi-line book that already includes siding, gutters, decks, or storm restoration — Ridgeline is an active named buyer with eight add-ons and a stated preference for founder-led local brands. The diligence questions on the next inbound are the usual ones: how much of the book is residential versus commercial, how storm-driven the revenue is, and whether the inbound wants a Kalamazoo-style multi-line exteriors shop or a pure roofing specialist.
